Celebrating Creativity & Connection: An Interview with Stacey Curry of Star Hitched Wagon

When I sat down with artist and business owner Stacey Curry, it was clear that her work is about much more than creating beautiful products. Her brand, Star Hitched Wagon, is rooted in celebrating connection. Connection to yourself, connection to your circle and connection to the natural world.

Building a Business with Meaning

Stacey’s target audience is women ages 45 to 65. These women value meaningful gifts and are willing to invest in pieces that carry both artistry and intention. For Stacey, that is heart of her business. Connection. “An artist needs somewhere for creativity to go,” she explained. “Connecting with like-minded people who appreciate what I create is what keeps me going.”

Her entrepreneurial journey began just five or six years after high school, when she launched her first business. What started as simply “making things” quickly grew into a lifelong passion. “Star Hitch Wagon became over 20 years of my life’s work,” she shared.

Finding Her Brand’s Identity

Like many creative entrepreneurs, Stacey didn’t start with a polished brand vision. “I didn’t have any structure. The brand didn’t make sense in the beginning,” she admitted. But over time, she began to refine and refresh her vision, pulling everything together into something cohesive. Inspired by the imagery of girls’ profiles, senses and stones, she wove her ideas into the unified identity that Star Hitch Wagon is today.

Tools & Lessons Along the Way

When it comes to developing her brand, Stacey found inspiration in an unexpected place: classes. “I probably took too many branding classes,” she laughed, “but they actually helped me focus and organize.”

On the practical side, her go-to daily tool is simple but effective. The Notes app on her phone. “It is easy to use and reminds me to write things down,” she said.

Looking back, Stacey admits there’s one thing she would have done differently: outsourcing earlier. “I wouldn’t have been so afraid to outsource the things that needed to be outsourced. Those things pay for themselves over and over again,” she reflected.

Advice for New Entrepreneurs

When asked what advice she’d give to someone just starting out, Stacey was clear: “Do it—not perfect. Start as you go. You can invest in others to help you along the way, but you don’t have to have everything perfect to begin.”

Defining Success & Looking Ahead

For Stacey, success looks like growth.“I keep seeing growth. I keep seeing a loyal customer base and getting to connect with the same people who appreciate my work,” she said with a smile.

As for the future of Star Hitched Wagon? Stacey’s vision is simple yet powerful: “To continue growing at a slow and steady pace, to branch out into more stores and boutiques, and to keep making those personal connections that matter most.”
